When is Family Day in Ontario?
Family Day 2025 is an official national holiday. In Ontario, it’s on Monday, February 17. It’s a provincial holiday, so most people have the day off (with some exceptions), and students don’t have school. This day is made to celebrate and prioritize family, so take advantage of Ontario activities.

Family Day is meant for spending time with loved ones, and this doesn’t always require an outing. Watch a favourite movie, play board games, have a family dinner, or simply spend quality time together.
Long Weekend Getaways
Family Day is always on the third Monday of February, and as a provincial holiday, it creates a long weekend. That means it’s the perfect time for a family getaway. There are plenty of places to explore throughout Ontario. Try a winter resort for cozy chalets, skiing, skating, warm drinks, and big fireplaces.
Kid-Friendly Activities
The whole family can enjoy activities as simple as making a snowman or snow angel, building a fort, going tobogganing, or going skating.
To avoid the chill, participate in indoor adventures, such as a high ropes course at The Factory in London, an indoor mini-golf area and arcade at Kids Fun City in North York, or a three-level indoor family playground at FunworX in Kitchener.
Pretend it’s Summer with Water Parks
It might be freezing outside, but Ontario houses some epic indoor water parks. Have fun on water slides, rafts, wave pools, and lazy rivers at the following locations:
- Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara
- Plunge! Blue Mountain in Blue Mountain
- Adventure Bay Family Waterpark in Windsor
Bring in the Animals
Ontario offers a wide range of animal-related activities, from zoos and aquariums to aviaries, observatories, farms, and parks, providing countless opportunities to connect with wildlife and nature. Check out a wide selection of animals at the Toronto Zoo.
Get up close and personal with wolves in the wild at Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve. See your favourite birds at the Bird Kingdom, a free-flying indoor aviary. Learn more about beautiful butterflies at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory.
Outdoor Fun
Kids will have a magical experience walking through The Treewalk Village Enchanted in Stoufville. Explore an illuminated forest with bridges, treehouses, and a climbing wall. Or, find a place to skate, whether it’s outdoor rinks, forest trails, frozen canals, or arenas.

- London Children’s Museum
- Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology
- Canada Science and Technology Museum

Check out Little Canada, a miniature animation of iconic Canadian landmarks and landscapes. If there are sports fanatics in the family, go to The Hockey Hall of Fame where kids get access for free on Family Day. Visitors can capture memorable photos with the Stanley Cup, meet the beloved mascot Slapshot, receive a complimentary gift, and enjoy endless fun in the interactive zones.
Family Games and Gaming
Escape rooms have popped up all over the place. They’re a thrilling experience with mind-sharpening riddles and immersive rooms. There are plenty of family-friendly options available.
Find an escape room near you or go to Activate, the world’s first active gaming facility with multiple locations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
