Have you finally found your home? Your oasis to escape, relax and unwind. Of course, moving into a new apartment is always super exciting. But, unfortunately, sometimes, we can get caught up in the excitement and forget the tedious yet essential tasks.
Packing your whole life up, moving and resettling is a colossal task on its own, but there's more to it. To help you get a jump start, here are the top things to do after moving into your new home.
Take a tour
The first thing to do is take a slow, careful tour of your new apartment. Double-check whether all the repairs, renovations and updates are done per your agreement and take photos for the record. Corners and windows are the two things most people commonly miss.
Ask for details of the building manager and check for building procedures if you ever get locked out of your home. Finally, make sure all appliances are there and in working condition as per the sale agreement.
Clean, Clean, Clean
Unpacking and organizing your home is the best feeling. But before you rush to that step, make sure you do a thorough deep cleaning. Consider hiring professional cleaners instead of trying to do it yourself.
Considering a Park Property apartment? You’ll be happy to know that all our units are professionally cleaned prior to a new resident moving in. So, you won’t have to worry about this step.
Unpack & organize
Once you get the work part out of the way, it's time to unpack! If your apartment is unfurnished, you can buy everything you need and make a weekend out of decorating your home. It is the best feeling to look at your fully furnished new home, albeit exhausted and probably starving, but surely highly satisfied.
Introduce yourself to your neighbours
It's easier to introduce yourself to your neighbours when you've just moved in. Also, a lot less awkward to ask for help if you ever get locked out! If they have lived long enough, they can give you all the ins and outs of the building and helpful tips about your new community. Being friendly with your neighbours can go a long way.
Update your address
Make a list of all the places you need to update your address. The best way is to categorize them and keep updating the list as you go. Some important suggestions:
• Paycheques and essential documents/forms
• Change your mailing address from the Post-office department
• Contact Insurance companies (home, car, personal, etc.)
• Utility bills (hydro, gas, electricity, WiFi)
• Subscription services (online shopping, online streaming, etc.)
You might forget some places at first, but you're good to go as long as the essentials are covered!
At Park Property, we try to make your move-in as easy and stress-free as possible. This includes cleaning and completing any repairs or renovations so that your apartment truly feels brand new when you move in!
